How To Decoupage: Christmas Tree Craft

I’ve had a lot of questions about how to adhere scrapbooking paper to wooden surfaces, and this is how I do it!

First you need to choose and gather your supplies. I got this wooden Christmas tree at Michaels. I also picked up a pack of their everyday value scrapbook paper pads. I choose 9 different patterns that I liked and wanted to use.

Next I cut them into 1 1/2 inch strips.

I like to use Mod Podge for my glue and sealer. I used this matte one I had on hand.

Using a sponge paint brush I Mod Podged small areas of the wooden tree at a time, enough for one strip. Adhering the strip of paper to the wood quickly. Its important to ensure there are no bubbles in your paper and if there is you need to press them out before the glue dries. I repeated these steps until all of my strips were adhered to the wooden tree. Then I put a coat of Mod Podge over the top of the entire project! Try to coat this Mod Podge on as smoothly and evenly as you can.I went over the seams where the different pages joined and pressed them down to make sure they were no bubbles in between them.

I’d recommend waiting at least 12 hours for the project to dry before completing the next step. If not you risk the chance of the paper tearing off your project. I took my utility knife and sliced the excess paper off by tracing around the tree. Make sure you are using a surface that won’t be damaged by the knife. I always work on a cutting board to protect my table.

I was going for a distressed look with this tree so I took some sand paper and sanded the edges, as well as some of the paper seams. If you want a cleaner finish to yours you can skip this step but remember to wait at least 12 hours before cutting off the excess paper and if you want, you can also go over your project with another coat of Mod Podge to avoid any fraying.

I am obsessed with the finished project!
